| Tiivistelmä: | Abbey National is the first of the building societies to test its chances in the stock market. Abbey National will make the transfer from building society to quasy-bank or financial services retailer. It has led the way with cheque book current accounts, and is diversifying into estate agency and insurance business. The society has put in train a series of restructuring moves. Three new operating divisions were formed. The society will have to weight up its new relationship with shareholders. As the share offer seems attractive, Abbey members are expected to vote in favour of the conversion. |
