Tiivistelmä:General Management jobs are usually described by their similarities: they are heads of an organization or unit and have multifunctional responsibility. But executives need to understand differences in order to make good general management appointments, particularly from one organization to another. Based on two separate studies of general managers below the level of chief executive (division general managers in a large USA conglomerate, and district general managers in the UK health service), it is shown how differences can cause general managers to fail or nearly fail if they are not considered when a person is selected for the job.
