| Tiivistelmä: | Four recent trends in the Western societies are analyzed: turning East; a focus on Japanese management methods; scientific paradigm shifts, and the quest for meaning and purpose. Each development testifies that the East can provide sources of inspiration for the Western societies in their recent cultural crises. The possibility and ways of the convergence between the two cultural heritages are investigated. The cultural influences from the East are still undercurrents, but the East is no longer exotic. It is supposed that the influence of the East will increase in the near future in two fields particular - religion or spirituality and modern sciences. |
