| Tiivistelmä: | Software, systems and services that help groups work better, called groupware, have induced a lot of controversy. Business people consider it soft and fluffy, IS people say they have been doing it for years on mainframes. But groupware is winning new respect, from managers and IS executives. Groupware operates basically in two ways: by regulating work content or by controlling workflow. Managing work content involves shared information, either regular data or shared text files. The content-intensive and workflow-intensive groupware diagram is shown and explained. Union Carbide's groupware environment is described as a case story. Systems Notes and ViewStar are outlined as groupware softwares. |
