Tiivistelmä:The article examines a government funded project in which knowledge management software was applied to support environmental sustainability in the construction industry. The project is an example of a typical Mode 2 -project, as it involves both academic institutions and industrial partners. The authors evaluate the multidisciplinary nature of the project and find clear tensions between the industry and academic partners, which lead to diverging agendas and alignments. The construction companies' expectations of ICT-based knowledge management and sustainable construction agenda caused unresolved tension. The article shows that while there are some problems in Mode 2 research, integrating activities from both Mode 2 and Mode 1 research could generate a better applicable research method.
