Tiivistelmä: | In the article, new welfare (hereafter as: wf.) measures for marginal changes in river quality (here as: r-q.) in selected English rivers are presented. The r-q. indicators include biological, chemical and habitat-level attributes (as: attrs.). Presented are economic values for recreational use of three types of river, that is, chalk, lowland and upland. Using data from a survey of anglers, two travel cost models were estimated, one predicting the numbers of trips and the other predicting angling site choice. The models were linked to estimate the wf. associated with marginal changes in r-q. using the participation levels as estimated in the trip prediction model. The results show that higher flow rates, biological quality and nutrient pollution levels affect site choice and influence the likelihood of a fishing trip. Consumer surplus values per trip for a 10 percent change in river attrs. are btw. GBP 0.04 and GBP 3.93 (of 2001). |
