| Tiivistelmä: | Further evidence on the valuation effects associated with divestment is provided. Multiple divestments by a single firm and small divestments are eliminated from the analysis. The sample is one of large, but single divestments. No other news announcements confound the divestiture impact at the announcement period. To investigate the effect of divestment on the firm, parameters of both the firm's stock and bond return distribution are examined. There is no evidence of shifts in the return parameters of stocks or bonds in response to divestiture announcements or completions. These results are interpreted as consistent with a competitive and efficient asset market. |
