| Tiivistelmä: | In the planning and design phase of production flow lines tools are needed which predict system performance for various operating conditions. The paper considers such per- formance evaluation tools, especially analytical models. The major approaches for computing steady-state performance measures, including production rate, station utilizations and work-in-process, of open asynchronous flow lines are presented. The described approaches, which are applicable for large flow lines, are based on decomposition and make use of exact or approximate results for two-station subsys- tems. In addition to several artificial problem cases two existing flow lines are analyzed. The approximations are highly accurate compared with the results of detailed simulation models |
