| Tiivistelmä: | This paper examines the determinants of inventory investment under joint production. The results suggest that multiproduct interactions both in current production and in stock holding may affect short-run price and inventory dynamics. The variability of production relative to sales in petroleum refining differs by product class. Significant production complementarities and substitution relationships in production that may acount for these variations, were found. It is estimated that inventory levels significantly affect short-run marginal costs. Petroleum product inventories appear relatively unaffected by user costs but are substantially influenced by production plans and prices for energy and materials. |
