| Tiivistelmä: | The integration of information and communications technologies (or IT) is playing key role in transforming the nature of work. The link btw. IT and transformation is poorly understood, and further theoretical developments are needed to advance our current knowledge of this relationship. There is a conceptual scheme is developed by drawing on and extending Giddens' (1990) social theory of transformation that relates changes in modern institutions to shifts in self-identity. The value of these ideas in making sense of the introduction of an electronic trading system, LIMNET EPS, across the London Insurance Market is illustrated. There are also presented some practical implications on the issue. |
