Or, if not the world, then at least Scandinavia, when the Oresund bridge between the Danish capital, Copenhagen, and Sweden's third largest city, Malmo, opened for traffic. It was more than just a piece of local infrastructure. The bridge was heralded by the region's press as a symbol of a borderless market serving around three million people in this prosperous part of Scandinavia.
