Tiivistelmä:Piece-rate workers generate both higher average pay and lower variance of pay than mixed-rate work. This means that both employers and employees could potentially benefit bya shift from mixed-rate to piece-rate systems. So, the puzzle is less about why a shift has taken place as about why mixed rates are used much at all.
