Tiivistelmä:Norway's national employment regime differs in essential aspects from the US and the UK, where majority of the most influenctial research on aptypical work arrangements has been set, which makes Norway an interest "case" in the study. Compared to USA and UK, Norway displays its own distinctive categories of employment, with important legally based demand for as well as legal constraints on the use of short-term hiring and the leasing of personnel. It is necessary to consider a wider range of motives than those related to numerical flexibility. that is, the ability to match the number of people working on a set of tasks with a changing work load, in order to understand why companies adapt these arrangements. The authors found in an empirical study of 395 companies, that the need to cover for absentees and thus numerical stability was found to be the most important motivation behind both of the work arrangements in question.
