| Tiivistelmä: | This paper explores geographic location (here as: loc.), size, price, and services to determine how new hotels' positioning is affected by the distribution of similar incumbent competitors. Using data on all 240 hotels operating in the city of Madrid btw. 1936 and 1998, a model of geographic and product loc. is estimated. The findings suggest that agglomeration (here as: aggl.) occurs only among differentiated (as: diff.) establishments. In the balance btw. aggl. and diff. strategies, especially significant is the trade-off btw. price and geographic dimensions. |
