Tiivistelmä:The article considers the development of networks of practice, the factors that promote the emergence of these networks and the role of knowledge sharing via portals. The authors argue that belief systems and general information are results, not pre-conditions, of knowledge sharing. The question of how a knowledge portal facilitates the diffusion of knowledge in a loosely coupled innovation project is studied in the Netherlands’ agricultural industry. The authors conclude that a knowledge portal affects on knowledge sharing in projects and also on the development of a network of practice. The knowledge portal didn’t seem to promote the exchange of tacit knowledge. In beginning phase on a network of practice the knowledge sharing focuses on explicit and general information. The knowledge was however shared between the project, platform and public levels.
