| Tiivistelmä: | This article discusses the way protected areas are constructed as tourism destinations by the information sources that are consumed by potential visitors to such areas. The focus of the paper is on whether the media contribute to the failure on the part of visitors to protected areas. The study suggests that the travel magazines cultivate the view that some areas are suitable for nature-based tourism, others for environmentalism, but nor for ecotourism. Visitors to protected areas will probably have problems in combining tourism with environmentalist pursuits. |
