Tiivistelmä:This paper deals with some neglected ontological issues regarding the ideas of passion (hereafter as: pass.) and knowledge (here as: knw.) in the contemporary Western context. It is argued that as a concept pass. can be understood in two main ways: i. teleological, that of a powerful, purposive motivation to achieve an end result, and ii. ontological understanding of the nature of desire, which in itself is double-sided. Based on the ideas of Foucault and Bataille, it is suggested that desire can be read as lack but also alternatively as a free-flowing creative force operating behind the quest for knw. Through the power effects of discourses like knowledge management (KM) and motivation theory, this flow of desire is curtailed in its ability to make meaning through non-knw. and knw., as well.
