Tiivistelmä:The wide variation in physicians diagnoses and treatment of patients with similar medical conditions supports the indication that at least some of the variation reflects inefficiencies and unnecessary medical costs. Standardization of medicine is a researched way to reduce the cost, and the most widely accepted form of this standardization is Evidence Based Best Practices (EBBP). Based on nine in-depth interviews of practicing physicians this article investigates their perceptions about linking a standard costing system to EBBP guidelines. By analyzing the responses using Grounded Theory Methodology the authors found that the two main themes concerning physicians were ethics and the implementation of a standard cost system in regard to EBBP.
