Tiivistelmä:In this article the authors test the hypotheses known as the ´environmental Kuznets curve` (EKC), claiming that the gaseous emissions of energy production have an inverted U-curve connected to income. The authors test data containing Finlands emissions in the period 1800-2003 using newly constructed emission series. The conclusion for this examination finds that while the carbon dioxide emission increased at the beginning of the period when analysed by using the EKC hypothesis, a steady decline of these emissions at high income levels could not be found. However they did find support for the EKC hypothesis with sulphur dioxide emissions and with some reservations with nitrogen oxides.
