Tiivistelmä:This paper is a response to Sorge and van Witteloostuijn (2004) (hereafter as: S. and W.) arguing that organizations' need to change is largely exaggerated and that management consultants hired to ease the change have in fact little value to add to an organization. In contrast to S. and W., this essay argues that management consultancy is not based on an exaggerated fad but a genuine demand. It is also stated that clients have several means of judging the quality of consulting services, therefore also having ways to ward off the possible opportunism of consultants. to support these views, long-term data on economic change is presented.
