Tiivistelmä: | This position paper deals with the way in which knowledge (hereafter as: knw.) is conceptualised in knowledge management (KM) literature and practice. Based on the Lakoff's and Johnson's work on metaphors (here as: m-phs.) , it is shown how people use m-phs. to think and talk about knw. Further research shows that the (at least) 22 different m-phs. used in the KM literature are primarily Western ones while in Eastern philosophy many other m-phs. for knw. are used. The paper presents the results of an exercise to determine the effect of m-phs. on KM approaches in which two challenging m-phs. for knw. were used: knw. as water and knw. as love. |
