Tiivistelmä: | This paper provides an in-depth discussion on the relationship between traffic fatalities and income from pedestrians' and vehicle occupants' perspectives. The analysis draws mainly upon panel data for 32 industrialized countries collected in the period 1963-2002. The paper identifies several factors that explain the decline in fatalities per vehicle kilometer travelled (VKT). The findings highlight the influence of incomes on the improved pedestrian safety. |
