Tiivistelmä:The study examines the effects of inward foreign direct investments into small developed countries in relation to subsidiary role and the consequent impact on their demand for skilled labour. The study was made using a unifying framework to predict diverse categorizations of the impact of subsidiary role on the proportion of their employment of skilled labour. Two propositions are suggested that requires interactions between three roles containing different levels of autonomy and intra-organisational relationships. These interactions lead to different proportions of skilled labour in subsidiaries. It is noticed that highest proportion of skilled labour by subsidiaries is located in small developed countries when autonomous-based operations are emphasized. The findings reveal that the proportion of skilled labour is highest in the cases of specialized contributors and lowest in the case of local implementers if there is an emphasis on intra-organizational relationships.
