Tiivistelmä: | A randomized controlled trial is used to test whether doorstep campaigning (henceforth as: c-ng.) can raise participation (here as: prtn.) in kerbside recycling (as: rec). More than 190 streets in the North West of England, Trafford, U.K. were randomly assigned into a treatment and a control group. All households in the treatment group were visited by canvassers who were trained to promote and encourage rec. Rec. prtn. rates were measured by observing bin set-out rates during a 3-week-period. Measurement was performed before and after the c-ng. campaign and then again three months later to find out if the intervention had been effective in raising prtn. rates. It is shown that the c-ng. raised rec. prtn. rates for the treatment group compared to the control group, but there was a decline in the impact of the intervention over time, being more effective on streets with low levels of rec. at baseline. |
