| Tiivistelmä: | This paper deals with findings from a study exploring the changing roles and career experience of research managers (hereafter as: res-mgrs.) and research administrators (here as: res-adms.) in English universities. It is explored how research support has evolved during a period of higher education sector responding to changing science and higher education policy. Res-mgrs. and res-adms. roles are impacted, the occupational group is altered and field boundaries are moved. It is drawn on Bourdieu's theory of social practice to understand these changes. A shared space of tension, the 'shifting arena', is identified. |
