| Tiivistelmä: | In the study it is argued that measurements of opportunity that are focused on the contents of a person's opportunity set fail to capture open-ended aspects of opportunity. An alternative conception of 'opportunity as mutual advantage' is presented, which does not require explicit specification of opportunity sets. The concept also suggests that persons are rather responsible than rational agents. The author concludes that opportunity as mutual advantage is an open-ended concept that is not capable of the kind of measurement that is required for the analysis of distributional issues. |
