Tiivistelmä:Gender differences in social mobility are significant research problems in sociology. In this article, these gender differences are studied in the context of early and final periods of transition to the market society. Patterns of intragenerational mobility (here as: i.m.) and its facilitating factors are investigated. Special focus is on gender differences. The results of this study show that i.m. in Estonia is higher in the second period of transition than in the first. Men are proven to have been advantaged relative to women in the first period of the transition, but women were more successful in gaining positions in the upper strata and white-collar positions in the second state of the transition.
