Tiivistelmä:National newspapers play important roles in creating national identities. Drawing on Fairclough's approach of intertextual analysis of news discourse within the paradigm of Critical Discourse Analysis, the article examines the effects of intertextuality on the discursive construction of national identities in the press. It compares how two daily newspapers in U.S. and China employ specific discursive strategies to construct national identities and positions in their discourse of two particular events representing moments of crisis and conflict in the relations between the two countries.
