Tiivistelmä:This study aims to explore the impact of news shocks on the growth rate of German (here as: G.) and British (here as: B.) tourist arrivals in Turkey. GARCH is used as a detection device to distinguish the sensitivity of G. and B. tourists to news shocks. Employing monthly log-differenced tourist arrivals from Jan, 1996 to Dec, 2006, it is found that the uncertainty about future B. arrival rates does not follow any specific pattern. The news shocks' impact appears to have an asymmetric, long-lasting, but decaying, effect on G. tourists. The national culture seems to modify the news shocks' impact on visiting decisions. G. tourists seem to be more sensitive to news shocks than the B. ones.
