Tiivistelmä:This paper argues that knowledge production (henceforth as: k-p.) in consulting teams (here as: c-teams) is intrinsically linked to the institutional environment (as: env.) that provides resources e.g. funding, manpower, or legitimacy and also offers cognitive feedback (here as: c-f-b.)through which k-p. is affected. By applying the theory of self-organization to the k-p. in c-teams, it is explained how c-teams are structured by the socio-cultural env. and are structuring this env. to go on with their work. The c-team's knowledge is shaped and influenced by c-f-b. loops involving external collective actors e.g. the client organization, practice groups of c-firms, the academic/professional community, and the general public.
