Tiivistelmä:This article expolores the determinants of gossip (henceforth as: gsp.) in purchasing and supply management. Gsp. is defined as talking about your business partner in a negative way to a third party. It is argued and shown that gsp. can be analyzed and used as a rational response in the management of business transactions. Using a dataset including about 400 problematic purchase transactions gathered in Germany from over 350 buying firms, the hypotheses are tested. In general, gsp. is more likely in the case of a larger problem, with a plenty of common third parties available to buyer and supplier (henceforth as: b-and-s.), and with a dense business network. Yet, gsp. is less likely in the case of b-and-s. having a longer business relationship, and more likely with b-and-s. expecting for business to come.
