Tiivistelmä:This article aims at contributing to the growing body of knowledge of the persistence of gender inequality in organizations. The notion of 'paradox' is used to uncover the processes of doing gender at a science department of a Dutch university to find out if gender segregation in academic and professional careers has already started during academic education, focusing on the study choices of female students in earth sciences. Discovered is the paradox of visibility, enabling to show the contradictory and ambiguous nature of how gender is done at this department. Discussed is the relationship btw. doing gender and paradox on a theoretical and on an empirical level etc.
