Tiivistelmä:Small and young firms are often argued to be responsible for a disproportionately large share of net employment growth (here as: e-g). In this study, performed is a meta-analysis of the empirical evidence whether net e-g. is rather generated by a few rapidly growing firms, so-called 'gazelles' - not necessarily small and young. It is found that gazelles are outstanding job creators as they create all or a large share of new net jobs. In average, gazelles are younger and smaller than other firms. Yet, it is the young age more than the small size that is linked with rapid growth. Gazelles can be found in all industries. In high-technology industries, there seems not to be any over-representation (herein as: o-r). However, there is some evidence of their o-r. in services.
