| Tiivistelmä: | In this paper, it is experimentally tested how individual cinema-goers are influenced by two variables having aroused substantial interest in the literature: i) critical reviews and ii) the role of box office stars. As regards the former (i), this paper's experiment indicates that negative reviews by film critics are cues affecting cinema-goers' pre-film assessment yet fail to exert any effect on post-film assessment. As to the latter (ii), box office star cast is not seen as an indication of quality as such for this paper's experimental subjects. Box office stars do not help mitigate the negative reviews' potential effects. |
