| Tiivistelmä: | This study explores coordination (henceforth as: co-) strategies in integrating distributed work. In the context of Business Process Offshoring (BPO), analyzed is survey data from over 120 offshored processes to understand both the sources of difficulty in integrating distributed work and also organizations overcome these difficulties. Interdependence btw. offshored and onshore processes is found to be able to lower offshored process performance. Investing in co-mechanisms can improve the performance impact of interdependence. Especially, outlined is a distinctive set of co-mechanisms relying on tacit coordination etc. Tacit co-mechanisms are shown to be distinct from the duo of co-strategies: building communication channels or modularizing processes to minimize the need for communication. |
