| Tiivistelmä: | This article is an introduction regarding four other articles in the journal; the topic is the determinants of successful research. There is discussion about academics who cannot always fully capitalize on the potentials of their research projects due to incomprehensive understanding of the subject matter and/or implementation problems. Also the research opportunities during the economic downturn are discussed. The articles which are presented in this editorial, are "Successful research" (Ohlson, J.), "In search of 'successful' accounting research" (Chua, W.F.), "Good analytical research" (Christensen, J.) and "Successful research: in whose eyes?"
