Tiivistelmä:The purpose of the paper is to study the tendency of managers in transitional economies such as China and Eastern Europe to use irrational competition strategies that harm competitors' profits rather than increase their own profits. The authors argue that this results from a moral vacuum caused by the collapse of communist ideology, and examine the phenomenon of competitive irrationality in two countries sharing the same history of economic transition: China and Slovakia. It is found that the managers that have experienced the formal communist ideology indoctrination are less likely to use irrational competitive strategies, than post-communist managers that have been exposed to only minimal moral teaching.
