Tiivistelmä: | This article claims that sex workers in Costa Riga's tourism sector work to survive, but also to increase their consumption level. Sex work offers an opportunity than women have been unable to reach in other kinds of employment. In addition, sex work allows women to consider themselves as especially good mothers, able to provide for and spent quality time with their kids. The study suggests that sex workers may be the essential subjects of neo-liberalism in Latin America in their participation in global economy both as workers in the tourism sector and consumers of local and imported goods. The study is based on ethnographic fieldwork. |
