Tiivistelmä: | The paper aims to examine the construct of moral intensity, an important variable in a decision making process, by studying the effect of availability heuristic on the perceptions of moral intensity. Two studies are conducted in which the impacts of availabilities on magnitude of consequences and social consensus are examined. The results show that the availability of consequences of an act relates positively to the magnitude of consequences of that act, and that the availability of other people to perceive an act morally acceptable is likely to result in perceptions of social consensus that the act is morally acceptable. The findings of the article indicate that moral intensity can be influenced to reduce unethical behavior. |
