| Tiivistelmä: | In tourism studies, sleep is discussed only by way of overnight stays- as a measurable variable, but sleep itself has been left untouched. This paper argues that both the theoretical and the industrial-related conceptions of tourism experience remain shallow unless the mode of agency involved in the collective state and practice of sleeping is understood properly. By way of unloading the paradigm of the active and awake tourist, the study opens up a new possibilities for the development of a sustainable and ethical tourism industry. |
