Tiivistelmä: | It is evaluated in the study how managerial perception of public environmental (henceforth as: env-al.) policy stimulated the way of firms in acting to adapt to challenges related to the natural environment, and the subsequent advancements in firms' env-al. performance (as: perf). Based on data sets of env-al. behaviour and the results from over 1150 Spanish firms from 2002 to 2005, it is concluded that each model of env-al. public policy inspired different patterns of env-al. adaptation by the firms. Voluntary policies based on cooperation are the most inspiring for the adoption of proactive env-al. practices, especially those more innovative practices possibly extending even beyond legal regulation. The adoption of more advanced env-al. innovations by firms submitted to auto-regulation allowed both a superiour improvement and an env-al. perf. on a higher level. |
