Tiivistelmä:This study shows how SMEs can take advantage of the opportunities (herein as: opprts.) presented by CSR. Using data from 24 detailed case studies of UK SMEs from a range of sectors, explored are many CSR opprts. presenting themselves to SMEs, e.g. developing innovative products and services and exploiting niche markets. There are inevitable challenges for SMEs undertaking CSR. Yet, by their very nature there are many characteristics (here as: chars.) to support the CSR adoption. Herein, explored are these chars. and how the utilization of positive qualities will help SMEs make the most of corporate social opportunity (CSOs). A key element tothe success is integration of CSR into the core of a company. Using the case studies to illustrate key points, it is suggested how CSR can be built into a company's systems and become 'just the way we do things'. Grayson's and Hodges's book describes seven steps for moving a company in the direction of a 'want to do' CSO mentality. Herein, these steps are adapted for SMEs. By transferring and building on knowledge from the 24 detailed case studies, 'business opportunity' model of CSR for SMEs is developed.
