Tiivistelmä: | This paper explores the perceived threats from terrorism (herein as: ts-from-trrm.) in six especially exposed organizations (henceforth as: orgs.) in the U.K. travel and leisure sector. It is examined how managers in orgs. deal with uncertainty where probabilities are impossible or difficult to define. It is explored how they face the challenge of interpreting and acting on these interpretations. Based on the data, it is indicated that perceptions of uncertainty and ts-from-trrm. and theories of action differ in and btw. orgs. depending on factors e.g. the accuracy and completeness of information, previous experience of terrorist events and whether or not these threats were prioritized over other uncertainties. Three aviation industry orgs. prioritize ts-from-trrm., while three leisure and travel sector orgs. do not. Aviation industry managers tend to take a proactive, organizational resilience stance towards uncertainty, whereas managers in the other orgs. are more reactive, or take little action, with systemic features of orgs. taking precedence over decisions and actions. Theoretically, this study draws upon two lenses: i) organizational resilience and ii) institutional perspectives. |
