Tiivistelmä: | This paper explores knowledge acquisition through social ties. The approach is based on the concepts of knowledge (here as: knwl.) as a 'club good', and of social capital (as: soc-cap.), with the latter seen as a set of assets possibly overcoming obstacles to knwl. exchange. Proposed is a taxonomy of soc-cap. and knwl. Hypothesized are relationships among the considered dimensions. Applied is a multivariate analysis at the individual level to data gathered in the Republic of Latvia, incl. a sensitivity analysis as to socio-demographic dimensions. Based on the analysis, the low effect of soc-cap. on complex forms of knwl. is highlighted. In addition, a strong sensitivity for socio-demographic dimensions is shown. |
