| Tiivistelmä: | This paper explores the impact of relationship characteristics, family ownership and their interaction effects on the use of collateral in SME lending. Using decision tree analysis, the determinants (herein as: detms.) of collateral and of the choice btw. business and personal collateral are examined. It is uncovered that relationship characteristics have a significant influence, but not always in the direction as expected. Furthermore, they do not appear to be the primary detms. in the classification models. The most important detms. in both classification models seem to be the loan amount, total assets and the family vs. non-family firm distinction etc. |
