| Tiivistelmä: | Using the German Socio-Economic Panel (SOEP), a significant 'raw' gender wealth gap of EUR 50,000 for married partners is found. Through decomposition analyses it is found out that the gap is largely driven by differences (herein as: diffs.) in characteristics (as: chars.) btw. men and women, especially by individual's own income and labour market experience. This is particularly true at the bottom and at the top of the wealth distribution, which is shown by semi-parametric decomposition techniques. Diffs. in the lower half of the distribution are mostly driven by the wealth function, that is, the way in which women transform their chars. into wealth. |
