| Tiivistelmä: | Herein, provided is a model of equality of opportunity (herafter as: eq-of-opp.) encompassing different conceptions expressed in the public and philosophical debates. In addition to this, introduced herein is a thrid factor, luck, capturing the random factors whose impact on outcome should be even-handed for eq-of-opp. to be satisfied. It is analyzed how the various definitions of eq-of-opp. can be empirically identified, given data limitations and providing testable conditions. Developed is an empirical analysis of eq-of-opp. for income acquisition in France from 1979 to 2000, the results of which are reported. |
