| Tiivistelmä: | This paper deals with the changing role of universities in the United Kingdom (U.K.) as they respond to an engagement agenda determining a more visible and immersive interaction btw. academics and the public. There is set out a survey of attitudes to public engagement in a selection of U.K. universities drawing on interviews with senior academics with managerial responsibility by the end of 2009. The results reflect a mood of indecision and anxiety among respondents towards a public engagement agenda seen to influence the characteristics of their professional identities and working lives. |
