| Tiivistelmä: | This study explores the conditions under which environmental and firm-level factors affect MNE ownership strategy. It is theorized herein that these effects be related to changes over time, which is subdivided into the aspects of absolute and relative magnitude. Using longitudinal data on Japanese foreign direct investments (FDI), four hypotheses are developed and tested. At the environmental level, the use of international joint ventures (IJVs) is sgnificantly increased due to the proliferation of FDI opportunities. Increase in FDI experience has a significant positive effect on the use of IJVs at the firm level. |
