Tiivistelmä:During the interwar years Norway was at the forefront with regard to implementing legislation regulating cartels, although it differed largely from the antitrust legislation of today. Its main function was to prevent foreign monopolies and cartels from hurting domestic businesses. The article examines how the Norwegian authorities interacted during the interwar period with international cartels and trusts in seven different cases. The study shows that legislation was used to protect the development of domestic cartels as long as they were beneficial to Norwegian economy, but scepticism towards concetration of market power limited operations of foreign cartels and trusts.
